The fourth Design China Beijing — created by the team behind Asia’s leading design event Design Shanghai — opened at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center. BURGUNIE® and ECONYL® co-created carpet tiles for the Sustainable Hutong zone, expressing another form of sustainable beauty.
Sustainable Hutong
A visual and tactile foundation for the beauty of sustainability

Carpet for the Sustainable Hutong zone was jointly created by BURGUNIE and ECONYL using recyclable materials. It became a lively materials laboratory — gathering diverse materials, works and forms, and inviting people of many backgrounds to explore the long-term sustainable development of urban space.
By combining fragmented resources into a unique public space, Sustainable Hutong sparks fresh thinking about the sustainable city — redefining relationships among organisers and exhibitors, exhibitors and visitors, works and space, and people with one another.
As visitors move through shifting colour zones, their perspective continually renews — not only sensory surprise, but touch, feeling and spirit. Each colour field and its design works carry the theme forward while still delighting, inviting deeper exploration of sustainable materials and design.
